Of all the timeless troubadours to grace a stage or pen a lyric, there will never be an additional John Prine.
On Tuesday, April 7, the legendary American singer/songwriter died in Nashville from coronavirus issues. He was 73.
With an innate skill to convey the human experience by tune, Prine was revered as one of America’s greatest songwriters. With a job that began in the dive bars of Chicago, Prine’s lyrical observations of American lifetime ended up poignant, comical and profound.
Not astonishingly, it was one of Prine’s primary influences, Bob Dylan, who place it greatest. “Prine’s stuff is pure Proustian existentialism,” Dylan explained. “Midwestern mindtrips to the nth degree. And he writes beautiful tracks.”
His nineteenth and final album, Tree of Forgiveness, was produced in 2018 and acquired multiple awards, such as a Grammy nomination for Best Americana Album. Early this calendar year, Prine was awarded the Life time Accomplishment Award, his 3rd Grammy.
Whilst Prine never noticed important results in the charts, his outsized impact spanned each decades and generations. Due to the fact term of his passing, heartfelt tributes and go over tracks have been pouring in from across the songs sector.
